Pivot Group

Printed Mail Design | 2022

In April 2022 I was hired as a cycle graphic designer at The Pivot Group; a Democratic direct mail firm. Within Pivot I created a multitude of mail pieces, including but not limited to the three examples on this page.

Each project assigned to the team that I worked with was done with care and collaboration. It was imperative that we got correct voter information out to the population for the 2022 Midterm Elections.

One of the larger clients at Pivot was Somos Votantes / Somos PAC; the largest independent Latino engagement program in the country. The objective of these mail pieces was to highlight the importance of the upcoming election by framing them around specific issues. For this particular voter piece, it was climate change.

The client provided us with the color scheme and an idea of the creative direction. These pieces were intended to be bright, flashy, and engaging. Vectors in place of words, halftone textures, and a surplus of color were a few approaches that were used to catch the eye of the voter.

LCV Victory Fund: Climate Change 101

Front and back of mail piece

Following the theme of climate change, this was a concept piece for the LCV Victory Fund. The idea was to take the style of an elementary science book and turn it into an informative mailer. This was one of my favorite things I created at Pivot. The front cover is made up of a handful of climate disasters photoshopped together and then overlaid with a single color and a textbook texture. The inside follows the same layout that you would find in an elementary school science book.

This concept didn’t go past approval from the creative team, so the example here has magenta placeholder text which was intended to be replaced and re-colored.

Delegate Lily Qi: Candidate and Voting Information

Front of mail piece

An example of a candidate focused mail piece, this was for Delegate Lily Qi. This particular client represented District 15 of the Maryland House of Delegates. So while this piece is centered around Lily Qi, it was important to them to promote the district and the election as a whole. In turn, there was a lot of content in a small space. Sectioning the space provided and using blocks of color helped distinguish each piece of information, and dedicating the front of the piece to Lily Qi made her stand out.
